Summary:

Senior Applications Engineers at DWM&H lead the technical design of automated material handling system (AMHS) solutions. As a technical leader in the AMHS applications team, they will ensure the appropriate equipment selection to meet a solution’s technical requirements with the most cost-effective approach. Working with Solutions Consultants, they provide system concept drawings, equipment performance parameters and associated equipment costs.

Reports to: Manager of Solutions Engineering

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the mechanical design of AMHS proposal opportunities.
  • Create mechanical system designs and drawings of client specific solutions.
  • Hold the role of mechanical equipment subject matter expert working with Sales, Customers & Suppliers.
  • Oversee and/or generate cost estimates for proposed opportunities.
  • Write mechanical specifications to support sales opportunities.
  • Mentor junior engineers on AMHS mechanical design.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies and suppliers.
  • Attend Trade Shows representing DMW&H.

  • Occasional overnight &/or travel required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred. Other disciplines and education levels will be considered based on experience.
  • Relevant work experience in a similar capacity of 7-10+ years.
  • Expert in material handling system design, and cost estimating.
  • Strong knowledge of latest versions of AutoCAD – 3D design experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of latest Microsoft collaboration tools, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneNote, Visio.
  • Experience in writing Request for Quotations (RFQ’s) and evaluating competitive bids.
  • Expert in equipment application of three or more areas of material handling, such as but not. limited to conveyor and sortation systems, shuttle systems, ASRS systems, goods to person systems, etc.
  • Ability to understand and apply solutions in multiple sales verticals.
  • Fully understand and can mentor others in the ability to apply system design tools.
  • Able to create new tools to support system design.
  • Ability to understand data, operational flow and information needed from Customer for determination of mechanical system requirements.
  • Collaborate well with others in the department and across the organization.
  • Self-driven with proactive communication and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Able to set and meet goals, with a strong desire to win and to be part of a winning team.
  • May be assigned to special projects or required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet company needs.
